Sheffield Steeldogs
have today announced the signing of netminders Dmitri Zimozdra and Brandon
Stones. As one of the NIHL’s strongest netminders in recent seasons, Zimozdra
joins Ben Morgan’s line-up from Sutton Sting where he played for five seasons
as first choice netminder following his departure from the Steeldogs in 2013. Meanwhile,
Stones makes his return to the club after featuring in eleven games for the side in his previous campaign and will
certainly seek to challenge Zimozdra for the position of first choice shot
stopper next season. Experiencing the NIHL with Sheffield Spartans from 2013 to
2016, Stones is familiar with the league and now looks forward to making his
return in September.
Also this week, Hull Pirates confirmed the re-signing of defenceman Jonathan Kirk who
enters into his third season with the club, following last season’s attainment
of twenty five points from fifty five games. Having started out with Sheffield’s
junior setup, Kirk has experienced both divisions of the NIHL in his career,
icing with the Senators and the Spartans, before making the switch to the
EPL as the Pirates played their first season in this league. Further to this news, Hull Pirates
have also announced the departure of five imports as the club confirmed that netminder
Vlastimil Lakosil, defenceman Martins Ondrej, left winger Andrej Themar and
forwards Tommi Laine and Ugnius Cizas would not return to play for the Pirates
during their 2017-18 campaign.
Meanwhile, Scott McKenzie’s Dragons have announced that youngsters Jonah Armstrong and Louis Morgan will return to play another season for the Welsh outfit. Netminder Armstrong featured in fifteen games for The Dragons last season and was certainly able to demonstrate his ability when called upon throughout their 2016-17 campaign. Similarly, blue liner Louis Morgan was able to make his debut with the NIHL outfit last season and proved valuable when contending with the tough competition in Division One. Set to continue their development with The Dragons as a result, the duo can now look forward to icing with the senior team again next season.
