NIHL News
Blackburn Hawks have
announced their recruitment of former Manchester Phoenix defenceman Luke
Boothroyd who joins the club’s defensive unit alongside player-coach Steven
Duncombe and long serving ‘D’ man Ollie Lomax. Starting out with Bradford’s
junior setup in 2000, Boothroyd then progressed to the Elite League with the
Hull Stingrays before switching to the Phoenix in 2008 where he remained for
nine seasons, taking on the role of captaincy from his second campaign with the
team. Having led the Phoenix for eight years in the EPL, Boothroyd offers both experience
and leadership which suggests he will be an excellent addition to the Hawks’
growing roster.
Also adding to their line-up,
Sheffield Steeldogs have confirmed the signing of defenceman Tom Barry who will
head into his fifth season with the club when they ice in the new look NIHL from
September. Having played six games for Sutton Sting last
season, as well as icing with the Spartans and Senators in recent campaigns, Barry
is no stranger to the NIHL and is another strong addition to Ben Morgan’s
squad.
