Having
achieved a great deal on a personal level in spite of his club’s struggles this
season, it was yesterday confirmed that Billingham Stars’ deserving alternate
captain Chris Sykes will receive January’s Player of the Month award for NIHL
North’s Division One. Collecting fifty five points in twenty three league
games so far this season, Sykes has maintained his excellent work ethic during
a difficult campaign for the Stars to find himself Billingham’s top points
scorer and fourth in the league points production charts. In January alone,
Sykes racked up four hat tricks in seven games, contributing a total of
fourteen goals and six assists.
Discussing his recent accomplishment, Sykes told NIHL Northern Trio: “It’s a proper nice achievement to win January Player
of the Month. I never thought I’d win it out of all the people I’m up against
so it’s actually dead nice to win! I’m very happy with it. I’ve been putting
the puck in the net a lot this season and it’s nice to be recognised for it.
The Stars are getting their form back and we have had some great games lately
so hopefully that continues and we keep on pushing for the playoff spots.”
