This week, Team GB travel to Cortina, Italy to play in a pre-qualifying tournament for the PyeongChang Winter Olympics in 2018. Set to face hosts Italy, the Netherlands and Serbia, Team GB go into this game knowing that the group winners will advance to the final qualifying stage which will take part later this year.

Head Coach Pete Russell confirmed yesterday that Sheffield Steelers’ Jonathan Phillips will captain GB for the tournament whilst versatile winger David Clarke and defenceman Mark Richardson take on roles of alternate captaincy.

Travelling with the squad, IHUK’s official photographer Colin Lawson will experience GB’s latest expedition through the lens of a camera. Providing NIHL Northern Trio with superb photos from the National Ice Hockey League’s Moralee Conference this season, Lawson’s work will be much anticipated as he seeks to capture Team GB in action this week.

NIHL Northern Trio would like to wish the best of luck to Team GB in their quest for qualification and a safe trip for everyone journeying to Cortina. For those who are hoping to keep track of Team GB’s success at home, BBC Radio 5 Live and 5 Live Sports Extra will provide commentary of GB’s matches for which the faceoff times are listed above.
